I can't believe it's time to create my farewell
project already. it's been such an amazing, eye-opening, fulfilling, and
fun ten months. For the farewell project, we were allowed to do whatever
we wanted. Well, since I had just managed to talk my DH into getting me a
Cameo for a very early (by four months) birthday present, I decided to use it
to create my project. The question now was, what to make?
Well, as a kid, my favorite character was Winnie the Pooh. I had a stuffed Pooh that I took EVERYWHERE with me (in fact, I still have him - always have been nostalgic). My DS liked Pooh, but never really got into him as much as I did. However, my DD did, so when the new movie came out last year, I was very excited to take her. I also discovered that there was a Winnie the Pooh movie related page on FB - so of course I had to "like" it. The often post quotes from the movie, which are great, but there was one recently that kind of hit home.
It was posted right when I needed it, since over the last few months things haven't been going very well at work, and I've been tossing around the idea of becoming a engineering consultant, and expand my current side businesses in engineering and crafting. With this decision though comes tough decisions and trying to figure out finances, and child care, etc. My chiropractor has even offered me the opportunity to work with him part time to make sure at least some money is coming in. And at the same time, I had to make the decision to try out for the DT again. Then I saw this quote posted, and I knew that no matter what path I chose, I would/could make it work. It was just a matter of time figuring out all the little details. No decisions have been made (except that I wasn't trying out for the DT, as I needed to concentrate on figuring this all out), but hopefully by the end of the summer things will iron themselves out.
Now, enough of my life story recently and onto how I made this project.

The first thing I realized was that there are no images of Winnie the Pooh or his cronies available for the Cameo (and since I just got it, I didn't have time to learn to make my own or use another format). So I decided that I was going to cut out the quote with the Cameo. Luckily I had plenty of Pooh embellishments in my stash. LOL
1. I typed in the quote. Then I selected the font Segoe Script (there are a lot cool options I have to say), and 42 pt. I centered the quote on the page, and then moved it up about one inch to make room for some of the items I wanted to use at the bottom.
2. Then I chose MME Lush blue as my paper, and decided that to make sure the creams matched, I would turn one of the flocked papers over and use the back for the quote. I placed the paper on the cutting mat. One note about this is that the flocking does come off onto the mat, but it retains the stickiness afterward.

I placed the paper on the cutting mat. One note about this is that the flocking does come off onto the mat, but it retains the stickiness afterward.
3. After the paper ran through the Cameo, I used
the negative image instead of trying to adhere the actual cut text onto
cardstock (I decided that the font was too thin and delicate for that). I
still had to pull off all the insides of some of the letters (a, p, d, e, etc)
and adhere them, but that wasn't so bad. The following picture shows this
step partially done. You can see that it probably would have read fine
without doing this, but I feel it looks more complete afterward.
4. Then I created a frame/mat for the quote, and
placed a sheet of darker blue cardstock behind the quote to help it stand out.

5. Then I embellished it and added items around
the quote that I felt tied the quote to the movie and the Pooh theme - Pooh,
Eeyore, butterflies, birds, honey, flowers. The butterflies at the top
are MM Dilly Dally die cuts - there are clear ones attached to the paper that I
was trying to make look like shadows, and then the paper ones I folded in half
and only adhered the center to make them look like they are flying (see closeup
below).
6. Then I used a shadowbox frame for it. I fussy cut some of the flocked bird paper (the flowers) and adhered them to the back of the glass to add some dimension. I now have it hanging in my scrap area so that I can see it often and remind myself how it can inspire me.
Well, that's it. I hope you have enjoyed the
techniques and projects I have shown you over my term on the DT. I
certainly have enjoyed producing the projects and showing you some of the
techniques I've known for awhile or learned as I created these projects.
I have learned a lot and have bought a lot of new products in order to learn
about them and expand my repertoire. I've had a lot of fun over the last
ten months, both crafting and getting to know all of you (the CC
customers). It's hard to believe that my term is over already, but I know
that the new DT will have some great projects and techniques to show
you!! I will certainly be looking forward to seeing what I can learn from
them.

Thanks for sharing your creativity with us Beth!
ReplyDeleteI love that you made a project just for yourself! We should all do that!
And I love that quote too :)
Good luck with whatever path you choose.
This turned out great! All the best to you. - blue
ReplyDeleteI love this quote, too. Pooh is such a smart bear! Good luck with your life decisions. Go forward knowing you have grown as a DT member, & have taught us customers along the way.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Beth! I love that quote, too, and also have a love for Pooh. Thanks so much for everything you have shared and taught us this past year . . . I look forward to seeing more in the future. :)
